About Us

Welcome to Dr. Paws Pet Assisted Therapy Dogs.

We have been in existence for about 14 years.   We started with 2 people and 2 dogs and have grown to over 1200 members trained to date.  With over 80 locations all over Michigan,  we hope this makes your experience finding places to go much easier after you have registered with Therapy Dogs Incorporated.

Doctor Paws in an affiliate of Therapy Dogs Incorporated (T.D.Inc.).   Doctor Paws tests handlers and their dogs at Botsford General Hospital, in Farmington Hills and other locations in Michigan. You need to attend 3-1 hour sessions with your dog to qualify. Your dog needs to be 1 year of age, in good health (certified by your veterinarian), get along well with other dogs, and be well behaved (no barking or jumping on people).

You need to use this link to retrieve the three (3) forms needed for testing and certification.  Fill them out and bring them with on on your first visit (if you cannot download your tester should have extras with them).

Please call the Hotline for updates on testing times and dates:  248 888-7488.  This is also our fax number.

IMPORTANT: We need a copy of your dog’s rabies from your vet to make sure you are up-to-date on the first visit. Membership forms must be signed by your vet, before your first visit. No visits with your dog will be allowed without the form being signed. Optional, a Tester may show a short video about the do’s and don’ts of visiting patients with your dog. IMPORTANT!

When you are done with your 3 visits (to be completed in 6 months time) an application fee of $25 per dog per handler ($30 for 2 handlers, same dog) should be mailed in to TDInc with your completed paperwork.  (This fee off sets the insurance cost and provides liability coverage for you and your dog.  You will also receive your Red Heart in the mail that goes on your dog’s collar that says “I’m a Therapy Dog”, a membership card and a Quarterly Newsletter published by TDInc.).  There is no charge for testing from Dr. Paws.

To help us defray costs we do sell accessories, and we do accept donations.  We also encourage you to purchase a T-Shirt for yourself and a Bandana for your dog from Dr. Paws, cost is $30 for both.  The logo is recognized by facilities that you visit and helps with security.  You will also receive a Name Badge and business cards that you can pass out from your Tester.

You may have a location you’d like to visit or we have locations all over Michigan that we are trying to fill. Just click on our Locations tab on our web site and contact the facility.  Each facility may have their own guidelines to become a volunteer.

If you would like to start your own group by becoming a Tester just go to the TDInc web site at www.therapydogs.com and read their instructions on new Testers.

Thank you and good luck getting started…..the rewards are overwhelming.
